The Divine Counsellor – Isaiah 9:6

Among the titles of the Lord in Isaiah 9:6 is that of Counsellor, and we quote: “His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the Prince of peace.” It has in view the coming day when He shall govern the whole earth in His glory Yet we would point out that even now the Lord guided His people by His counsel, both in the Old and New Testaments. Two passages are before us: “Thou shalt guide me by Thy counsel and afterward receive me to glory” (Psalm 73:24). To the church at Laodicea, the Lord in the midst of the churches took the role of Counsellor to correct them as they claimed, “They were rich and increased with goods and had need of nothing.” The Lord said to them, “I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire that thou mayest be rich and white raiment that thou mayest be clothed and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear.”
