The Christian life begins at the cross. It is there and there alone that we meet the Saviour and find in Him the Surety for our sins. The Christian life continues in an attitude of consecration. The Corinthians were serving, albeit with some failures, and were functioning as a New Testament church as they exercised the grace gifts they had been given. They came behind in no gift. The Christian looks forward to the coming of the Lord from Heaven to take us to be with Him. This rapture was the confident expectation of the saints in Corinth as they awaited His return. From the Cross to the second coming of the Lord, with consecration characterizing us in between – that is a succinct summary of the path of the pious. The Thessalonians ‘turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for His Son from Heaven, even Jesus, the Deliverer from the wrath that is coming’. (1:9-10) Are you working, watching, and waiting today?
