He was received up into Heaven and sat on the right hand of God (Mark 16:19).
The text is more than an historical record of His ascension. The ascension is an attestation of the Words of the Lord Jesus when He said, I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). It is the signature of the approval of the Father of all that the Son has done. Paul said that the Lord Jesus was delivered up because of (for) our offences and was raised Lip because of (for) our justification (Romans 4:25).
His sitting down is an acknowledgment of a work that has been completed. No High Priest in the previous covenant could ever sit down as he offered the sacrifices. He stood offering the same sacrifices year by year continually for they could never take away sins and thus his work was never done (Hebrews 10:1-14). Further, the Lord Jesus Christ being seated at the right hand of God is an anticipation, for God has said, “Sit Thou on My right hand until I make Thine enemies Thy footstool” (Mark 12:36).
What do you see in his ascension? Do you see the Father’s approval of Calvary?
