“For thus saith the High and Lofty One Who inhabiteth eternity, Whose Name Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit” (Isaiah 57:15).
In this text we see Gods eternality, His timelessness, for He inhabits eternity. He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. We see His holiness, for His Name is Holy. We see His dwelling place – the high and holy place. But our text shows us a second dwelling place: “with him that is of a contrite and humble spirit…Could it be that God would deign to dwell with man? Our text tells us of the majestic meeting of loftiness and lowliness…of the Creator with the contrite…of the Highest with the humble! The heights of His celestial abode…the holiness of His character…the humility of the Christian who will abide with Him. How great was the delight of God in the Lowly Man of Calvary! He will have great delight in us if we “love mercy do justly, and humble ourselves to walk with God!” (Mic 6:8).
