Jesus of Nazareth

“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good, and healing … for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).

Our text, one of the many proof texts of the tri-unity of the Godhead, is taken from Peter’s sermon in the home of Cornelius. It is an appropriate summary of the Gospel according to Mark. We see the Pathway of the perfect Servant for “He went about…” He had come from Heaven. Indeed His “goings forth had been from of old, from the days of eternity” (Micah 5:2). We note His Purpose as seen in the words, “doing good.” We see the Power of the Servant, for He was “anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power.” We see Him as the Physician, for not only did He go about doing good, but His ministry was also one of healing. Finally, we see the Presence of God with and in Him. This man, the Man Christ Jesus, is the one Mark, the failing servant, presents to us as the unfailing Servant of Jehovah. He is the eternal Son of God (John 1:34).
