Fondness and Fidelity

“Hearing of thy love and faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints…” Philemon v 3

What were the distinguishing features of Philemon? They were evidently his love and faith. This faith manifested itself in faithfulness. We could say that his distinguishing features were his fondness and his fidelity. Notice that his love was first for the Lord Jesus and then, without discrimination, to all the saints. In fact, his name means ‘affectionate’ and his ways did not deny his name. Indeed there was an abundance of devotion and there was an absence of discrimination. Again, his faithfulness was first to the Lord and then to the Lord’s people.

What would you say that your distinguishing features are? How would we stand if we compared ourselves with Philemon?
