Special Report

Dominica

Paul Barnhardt writes: In March, Leah and I visited the Commonwealth of Dominica with Paul and Glenys McIlvenna (Burnaby, BC). Over the two-week period, we visited four assemblies for a series of meetings held in the gospel halls in Roseau and Salisbury. Both weeks included ministry and gospel each night. Hospitable believers from all four assemblies supported the meetings, and the hosting assemblies placed large speakers outside to reach even those who do not enter the charming halls. The challenges presented on the lush and rugged island due to various factors, such as seasonal hurricanes, are met by resourceful people with much national pride. The assemblies know their own challenges but carry on faithfully with weekly meetings, annual conferences, and both gospel and ministry series.

Homecalls

Ted Walser of St. Thomas, ON, on November 14, 2025, age 94. Born on April 17, 1931, Ted became a plasterer. After hearing the gospel through Albert Joyce in Lakeshore, ON, in 1956, he was saved on December 19. He was first in fellowship in the Pall Mall St. Gospel Hall in London, ON, before returning to St. Thomas, where he was in assembly fellowship for over 55 years. Predeceased by his first wife, Janet, in 2009, Ted later married Mary Ann Brandeau on April 30, 2011. After living on the family farm for several years, they moved into a retirement residence. Ted’s appreciation of salvation and love for the Lord’s assembly were readily apparent through his preaching and encouraging ministry. Glen Woodside and John McCandless spoke to the large gathering at the funeral, while Jeff Tolman spoke at the graveside. Please pray for his four children and their families.

Joyce Boyd of Orillia, ON, on December 30, 2025, age 74. She was saved on March 26, 1965, through Isaiah 53:5-6. Joyce was baptized in 1967 and received into assembly fellowship in Orillia shortly after. She and her husband Norman (who predeceased her in 2018) were in fellowship in the assembly in Winnipeg, MB, for 17 years before relocating back to Orillia in 1996. Joyce continued faithfully in assembly fellowship until health issues limited her ability to attend. Hers was a quiet life of love and service for her Lord and Saviour. Many received her unique, personalized cards that always included an inspirational message and often a teabag tucked inside. Her home was always welcoming, a place of good food, warm fellowship and often a hearty hymn sing. Joyce will be deeply missed by her sister Anne (Don) Macfarlane. The funeral service was taken by Brian Crawford and Lorne Langfeld.

Jean Elizabeth (née McCullough) Seale of McKeesport, PA, on January 5, 2026, age 94. Born April 8, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA, Jean was born again on February 16, 1948, through Isaiah 53:5. She fellowshipped at the Friendship Ave. assembly and later on at the assembly in McKeesport. Jean married William (Bill) in 1951, enjoying 65 years of marriage. A Sunday school teacher to young ladies, she shared the gospel with them and neighbors. She cherished the Scriptures and prayed daily for family and others. Her prayers will be missed! She was tenderly cared for by her son Dan in his home following Bill’s homecall. Jean is survived by four children: Bill Jr. (Mary), Karen (Philip Mizener), Dan, and Tim (Sherry); ten grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. The gospel was faithfully presented by Dr. Lindsay Parks at the service and by Dale Vitale at the grave. “Just a little while!”
