Goals for Youth

“Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

Many young people work hard to acquire a university education. A young woman who was thinking about her life’s career asked, “What are the goals a Christian should have?” The reply was that wanting the will of God in our lives is what is basic. “We don’t always want that because we have our own ideas and preferences. Handing over control of our lives to God is not easy. Faith accepts what God permits, as is His right; then we must accept whatever comes as what He allowed and wants to use as He works in us. Again, we need faith for this. Your goal should be to be a woman of faith, and other things will follow naturally. As it says in Romans 8:29, ‘For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren’.”

“In order to know what it is that God wants, I try to look for three things when I am reading: something that reveals some truth about God, something that reveals some truth about myself, and something to apply to my life this very day.

God reveals His will through His Word and expects that we put into practice what He reveals. In other words, He makes His will known to the obedient heart that trusts Him. He uses the counsel of others and circumstances of life. There is a Scripture principle in John 7:17: “If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God.” Our willingness to carry out His will is the condition that He seeks in order to reveal it to us. If we sincerely want to know His will in order to do it, we can be at rest, for He is well able to make it known to us. It is good to want to succeed in life, but it is even more important to be concerned about what God wants of us in the life He has given us.
