Redemption – 1 Peter 1:18

“Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot” 1 Peter 1:18.

In this precious text, we see the cost of redemption. While salvation is described as the free gift of God which is eternal life, the unparalleled cost of this gift was the precious blood of Christ. Then we ponder the character of the Redeemer. He was impeccable – absolutely free from sin within and sin without. He was the Lamb without blemish and without spot. Finally, we consider the consequences of redemption. We were not only saved from eternal wrath, we were delivered from our former manner of life. The lusts of the flesh have given way to love for the Father. Animosity has been replaced by appreciation. Waywardness has been replaced by worship. The song of Revelation 5: 12 has already begun in the heart of the believer. ‘Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.”
