Special Report
South Africa
Rodney Brown writes: We were commended from the Larne Assembly, N. Ireland, in 2001 and have been serving the Lord in South Africa plus visiting Namibia for gospel outreach since 2011. We are based in the Cape Town area but also have had many invitations to help in other parts of the country. There are many opportunities for public preaching and personal witness in the public space. There is liberty to take the gospel onto the streets, which we do using a loudspeaker, and carry out literature distribution without restriction. South Africa is a violent country. However, we have never been threatened, even in dangerous areas. Usually we find people to be quite accepting of us and the literature and we often get into conversations. Other activities include radio preaching, children’s work and Seed Sowers outreaches in Namibia. Thankfully, we can report that people have been saved and many baptised. It would be good to see local assemblies with a greater burden to reach out in their communities. Sadly, some assemblies have closed in recent years and others are very weak. Please pray that new believers will go on well for the Lord, building into their assemblies, and that we will soon know of others trusting Christ.

Homecalls
Maxine Driver of North Bay, ON, on April 13, 2025, age 83. She was the beloved wife of nearly 65 years of Lewis Driver of North Bay. Maxine was born in Port Loring, ON, and born again on November 3, 1966, through the truth of Acts 16:31 while hearing the gospel preached by Dave Adams. She was the much-loved mother of Rod (Betty Lou) of Port Loring; Rick (Tami) of Callander, ON; Randy (Sherry) of Wasaga Beach, ON; and Julie (Mike) Moore of Callander. Maxine also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She suffered a stroke in 2016 that limited her ability. Maxine expressed her appreciation during COVID that she was able to meet online with the saints again. David Booth spoke words of encouragement and a clear gospel message at her funeral service.
Dawn Heels of Waubaushene, ON, on April 15, 2025, age 80. Born on May 8, 1944, she was a daughter of Cuban missionaries Vern and Ilda Markle. She married Ed Heels and was in fellowship in the Waubaushene assembly, teaching Sunday School and helping in whatever way she could. Her home was open, and many can testify to the happy times of fellowship, sings and meals enjoyed there. Her work as a nurse, especially in obstetrics, in the Midland Hospital made lasting impressions, and many new mothers testified to the help that Dawn had been to them. Her strong singing voice was missed during assembly meetings over the last few years as she was confined to a nursing home. She is survived by her husband, two sons and two granddaughters. A large crowd gathered for her funeral, conducted by local brethren and lastly Gary Sharp at the committal service.
Kent Hendrickson of Ontario, WI, on April 26, 2025, age 73. He was saved on August 7, 1973, realizing Christ died for him. Kent devoted his life to the Lord. He married Barbara in 1978, and they served the Lord together. The Lord called Kent to be an elder for over 50 years; he loved the Lord, the Word and His people. Kent studied and memorized Scripture, which the Lord used to make him a great teacher and help to the assembly. Kent and Barb often opened their home for the Lord’s people and the Lord’s servants. Kent had a great care for the saints, and they will greatly miss him. Lovingly cared for by his family in illness, he is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Aaron (Rebekah), Caleb and Hannah. Brandon and Lance Doll, Lee Stenerson and John Meekin shared the funeral. Please pray for family members who are not saved.
