Special Report
New Zealand
Marius Minnaar writes: “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain” (Revelation 3:2). Although we preach the gospel regularly, most of our work involves teaching, encouraging the saints, and strengthening mainly the smaller, more isolated local assemblies dotted across the country. We are keenly aware of the great responsibility and the heavy burden of being the Lord’s messengers, but it is good to know that He is with us despite our weaknesses and limitations. “Then spake Haggai the LORD’s messenger in the LORD’s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD” (Haggai 1:13). Yvette and I would like to acknowledge the faithfulness of our God and the love, care and especially the prayers of His people on our behalf. Please pray for the tremendous interest among young people in attending conferences and special meetings, a renewed interest in gospel work, and upcoming gospel outreaches in Tokoroa and Orewa.

Homecalls
Stientje (Tillie) Grift of Petrolia, ON, November 12, 2024, age 91. Born on December 9, 1932, in the Netherlands, Tillie immigrated to Canada at age 19, and heard the gospel through David Kember, who was visiting door to door. Although religious, she became convicted of her sin, and on February 16, 1963, Tillie trusted Christ as her personal Savior. She possessed a deep, abiding faith, and saw her husband, Aart, saved in later years before his homecall in May 1999. Tillie was in happy fellowship in Sarnia, ON, and later in Oil Springs, ON. Her last years were spent in a nursing home because of health issues. Jim Frazier clearly presented the gospel at the large funeral service, with some hearing the gospel for the first time. Elgin Hill and Terry Topley spoke at the graveside. Please pray for many family and friends who attended the service, many of whom are unsaved.
David Arnot Curran of Pennsauken, NJ, on January 14, 2025, age 80. Born September 18, 1944, he was saved at the age of 11 while reading Romans 10:9. Lovingly cared for by his family in his illness, he is survived by his wife Ruth Ann (née Strom), sons David (Susie), Phil (Mindy), Steve (Vidya), and four grandchildren: Tim (Brenna), Sarah, Bethany and Maya. A highly esteemed and greatly loved elder in the Pennsauken assembly, David gave guidance and character to the testimony for decades, and trained a rising generation of shepherds. A “son of encouragement,” he, along with his wife, showed a deep interest in the work of God in the surrounding area as well as further afield. David was a wise, godly and gracious Christian who will be greatly missed by his family and all the believers who knew him. Prayer is requested for unsaved members of the family.
Rebecca Ann Erickson of La Crosse, WI, on January 28, 2025, age 70, after only one hour of sudden dizziness. Her husband Cal had only a few minutes with her before she entered heaven. Saved on January 23, 1966, at age ten, Becky was received into God’s assembly at 14, and right from the beginning made Philippians 4:8 her pattern for life. She married Cal Erickson on November 1, 1986. As a couple, their life was centered around the assembly, shepherding the young, and often opening their home for many guests. Preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Rhea Priour, Becky is survived by her husband Cal; children Caleb (Kelsey), Jeremy (Emily) and Shanna (Gary) Collins; and nine grandchildren. Her siblings are sisters Eunice, Pam, Jackie and Lynette, and one brother Larry. Over 400 attended her funeral, with many standing. Al Christopherson spoke a word in the gospel.
Charles Gardiner of Grand Bend, ON, on February 24, 2024, age 77. Born and raised by Christian parents in Exeter, ON, he was saved at age 19 through Romans 5:10, and subsequently baptized and added to the Grand Bend assembly, where he remained in fellowship since 1967. His love for languages led Charles to help Vincent Davey in the French work in Quebec in the 1970s for nine winters and several summers. Despite developing Parkinson’s disease at age 47, he learned Spanish in the early 2000s to witness to the migrant workers from Mexico and compel them to come hear the gospel. Enduring Parkinson’s with patience and unwavering faith to the end, Charles went to be with the Lord peacefully, as his family sang around his bedside the first line of “There’s a Land that Is Fairer Than Day.” He is survived by his wife, Miriam, and their two daughters.
Eloise Schmidt of Greene, IA, on February 25, 2025, age 91. She was saved August 26, 1966, having heard the gospel being preached by the late Paul Elliott and Eric McCullough in a tent near the town of Plainfield, IA. Romans 5:6 gave her the assurance of salvation as she acknowledged that she was the ungodly for whom Christ died. She and her late husband, Harry, were among the original believers that gathered to form an assembly meeting at Antioch, IA. She was faithful in prayer and enjoyed intimate communion with the Lord daily. She is survived by two daughters, one son-in-law, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was taken by Russ Nesbit.
Elizabeth Yade of Welland, ON, on February 25, 2025, age 94. Born on January 27, 1931, she was saved at age 17 through Acts 16:31. Beloved wife of esteemed elder Lorne Yade, Elizabeth passed into the Lord’s presence after a year’s stay in a local nursing home where Lorne still resides. Consistent in testimony and attendance for almost 74 years, her cheerful demeanor and supportive presence at all assembly meetings and functions will be greatly missed. Some older saints from the assembly in Phoenix, AZ, will remember their yearly visits to the area. Both were true examples of the “old paths” that we still try to maintain. The funeral was taken by her son Douglas Yade and her grandsons; they emphasized a hospitable home over the years to many preachers and visitors. Truly “the memory of the just is blessed.” We were blessed to know her and remember her.
