Other Fields

Aruba

Neal Thomson (Abbotsford, BC) writes: Four couples returned to Aruba on January 24 for a two-week visit to labor together in the gospel. There was a focus on the area around us in Savaneta and around the capital city of Oranjestad. We brought 10,000 IBH calendars in Papiamento (the local language), as a tool for gospel work. The majority went out through door-to-door distribution. The rest were targeted at businesses such as gas stations, stores and supermarkets. Additionally, the Lord heard our prayers and opened further doors for the gospel. We had Bible studies in our living room, and preached the gospel at a rehab centre, a care home and the local prison. At the prison, we had six 45-minute sessions with 8-20 inmates at a time. All listened intently and seemed to genuinely appreciate the message and literature. We were thankful also for opportunities to speak to children and youth at the two YMCAs on the island. Most people asked when we would be coming back. The Lord knows! We wait on the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest; the field seems “white already to harvest” (John 4:35).

Australia

South Australia

Adelaide: The inaugural Australian Seed Sowers was held January 18-25. Approximately 80 believers from across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Canada and the USA distributed 75,000 John 3:16 texts along with Geoff Bertram’s tract and offer of a free Bible. To date there have been 170 Bible requests. The Bible exhibition received 240 visitors, with unsaved attending the gospel meetings each evening. The local believers were greatly encouraged, and prayer is requested for ongoing follow-up.

Tasmania

Ridgely: Planted 143 years ago, the assembly held their annual conference January 25-26 for the blessing of the Lord’s people. Once again, the believers in that area were encouraged by being gathered together for fellowship and for teaching from the Word of God. They can truly say, “How good is the God we adore!”

Homecalls

Brendon Simms of Melfort, SK, on December 15, 2024, age 35. He was born June 6, 1989, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Despite being non-verbal, Brendon’s smiles and giggles were contagious and his beautiful eyes spoke volumes. When asked if he knew the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior, his eyes and expression would indicate a joyous “yes.” With his positive attitude, Brendon made many life-long friends, including those at school and at his Greentree Residence. Left to remember him are his mother Tami, his father Guy, his sister Danielle, his grandparents Peter and Marlene Simms, as well as many aunts, uncles, his Greentree family and many friends.

Emogene Lee Scott of Kansas City, MO, on December 20, 2024, age 96. She was saved November 7, 1953, and faithfully attended the Kansas City Gospel Hall. Her love for Christ was evident during her life. Hospitality and selfless acts of kindness were Emogene’s special gifts. Her legacy of love, faith, generosity, strength and unwavering spirit will be cherished and will never be forgotten. Emogene was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Scott Sr; three sons, Earl Jr., Ronald, and Edwin. She is survived by her son Alan Leroy (Woodie Esther); three daughters, Theresa Hodges, Esther (Gary) Toombs, and Priscilla (Solomon) Franklin; 27 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted by Gary Toombs, David Williams and Solomon Franklin. A very clear gospel message was presented to all who attended. Please pray for many family members who are not saved.

Helen Matthews of Cedar Falls, IA, on January 12, 2025, age 87. Her husband, Eugene, preceded her to heaven in April 2024. Helen maintained her positive attitude and care for others, as well as her contagious chuckle. She was saved in 1963 at the age of 25, realizing that she was the ungodly one for whom Jesus shed His precious blood. She and Eugene were among the original believers that gathered to form the Cedar Falls assembly in 1963. She remained faithful to her Savior and the assembly until her homecall. The funeral service was shared by Mike Palmer and Tom Stickfort. Please pray for the family members that are not saved.
