The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanseth us from all sin”. 1 John 1:7
We need to be cleansed from sin because the Bible says that the end result of our sin is death: “for the wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23). That is quite a solemn statement, for who among us is willing to say that he has not sinned? God did not qualify His statement with exceptions. He did not say that the wages of sin such as murder or robbery is death and I will excuse minor sins. No! God said, “The wages of sin is death.” The Lord Jesus Christ said, “He that believeth on Him (the Son of God) is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). You are ALREADY under condemnation if you do not believe that the only way to heaven is through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, which He shed on the cross of Calvary. Take this opportunity to see your need as a sinner – sin has brought you under the condemnation of a death sentence, which will be meted out the moment you step into eternity. If you were on death row at this very moment and were advised that the Governor COULD AND WOULD pardon you, would you refuse? Would you say, “I do not need to be pardoned? Certainly not! Yet this is exactly what you are doing if you do not turn to the only authority that CAN AND WILL pardon you from your eternal death sentence. It is the blood that cleanseth.
Why blood?
Leviticus 17:11 tells us “the life of the flesh is in the blood.” Life is in blood. If you denied blood to part of your body, such as an arm, it would wither and die. Why? – The life of your flesh is in your blood. Now if you were to contract a fatal blood disease and needed a blood transfusion to live, I can tell you that the doctors would not be transferring blood into you that was already afflicted with the same disease. The only blood acceptable would be blood that was disease free. Your disease is sin and your prognosis is eternal death. Your eternal life can be found in the blood of Jesus Christ, Gods Son, because His blood is the only blood that is free of any sin. The Bible tells us in Hebrews 4:15 that the Lord Jesus Christ “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin,” and in 1 John 3:5 that “He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin.” It is the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, fully man yet wholly God, that cleanses us from all sin. As a perfect Man, He shed His life-giving blood that each and every disease-ridden sinner needs. As the life of all flesh is in the blood, so too the life that is in the Eternal God is eternal life to all who believe in His precious name.
