Aruba
Neal and Veronica Thomson (Abbotsford, BC) arrived with their children on the island on January 7 and began informal Bible studies at a contact’s home. They were joined a few days later by Christian and Esther Autsema (Roseisle, MB) for one and a half weeks. Together they did visitation, conducted meetings and preached at a rehab centre. Neal writes: The work continues with a small group of believers in need of teaching. Isaiah Frazier and his family arrived February 3 and will stay until the 24th. We will continue teaching, preaching the gospel, door-to-door evangelism, visiting, and children’s work at the YMCA this month. Pray for those who desire the sincere milk of the Word to be fed, souls to be genuinely converted, and for the foundation of a future assembly, D.V., to be well laid. “Christ is all” (Colossians 3:11).
Cuba
Eric and Margie Fowler spent time in Cuba January 22-February 5 with some Christians from the Maritimes who have Cuban connections. He writes: Our two-week trip to Cuba was very timely. The saints are happy in the Lord amidst significant pressure and great need. We visited four of the assemblies in and around Havana, and had 10 meetings with them. No electricity and water is normal for the best part of every day. (The day after we returned home, I received a text message from a doctor in the assembly informing me that morning about no electricity nor water at the hospital. As a result, the hospital was forced to send all the people with non-life-threatening conditions home and just try to help those in very critical condition.) Clean drinking water and eggs are very hard to obtain, the latter being very expensive. Even bread is rationed daily to a little bun for each person. Gasoline is also rationed and difficult to obtain, with lineups often two kilometers long, with 12-hour waits to get even a small amount at the pumps. Poverty is seen everywhere. The saints in Cuba are extremely grateful for any who will bring them before the Lord in prayer. We also received a call from a brother (whom we did not visit) from another area in Cuba, who said that in spite of the hardship people are still getting saved and the Lord’s work is prospering!
