Calgary: The West Hillhurst assembly held a gospel tent series July 11-20 with Mark Bachert and Ross Vanstone, preceded by a Seed Sowers outreach at Forest Heights Park. Please pray for God’s blessing in salvation and for the encouragement of the assembly.

Edmonton: The assembly was encouraged by the addition of several families in the past year. They thank the Lord for providing places to meet while the hall undergoes reconstruction. Progress is going much faster over the summer, with the reconstruction to be completed in October, D.V., so they can have their conference in the new building. The assembly planned to continue this summer with a soccer camp outreach for children during the week of July 7. More than 100 children registered, and they planned to have a gospel meeting on three of the evenings. In the past, this has been effective in getting parents out to hear the gospel. They purpose, D.V., to open the hall with gospel meetings in November, with John Fitzpatrick and Alan Smith speaking.

Homecalls

Amelia (Bontrager) Ekstrand of Sandstone, MN, on April 29, 2025, age 94. Born January 28, 1931, and raised in an Amish home, she was saved on August 16, 1943, while reading a gospel tract given to her by a neighbor that afternoon. Being convicted about her sin, she remembered the phrase from the tract, “He (Christ) took the guilty sinner’s place,” and trusted that Christ died for her. Amelia lived in Cedar Falls, IA, for 19 years, and many young women would live with her over the years. She married Roland Ekstrand on May 7, 1983, and moved to Hinckley, MN, where she remained in fellowship until her homecall. She is survived by Roland’s children, son James (Avril) and daughter Beverly (David) Klar; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, all saved. The funeral was shared by Al Christopherson and Jerry Jennings, with Joel Portman speaking at the graveside.

Ernest Green of Windsor, ON, on May 5, 2025, age 101. He grew up in Preston, England, joined the RAF in 1942, and was saved in September 1943 while serving in North Africa. After the war, Ernest became active in Christian service in the Preston area, and developed an increasing desire to study the Bible. After his first wife passed away unexpectedly (1960), he was called to missionary work in France. In September 1961, while studying French in Paris, Ernest met Ellen, and they were married in 1962 in Powell River, BC. Together, they served the Lord in Metz, France (until December 2003), and then the Montreal, QC, area before moving to Windsor, ON, in 2012 to be closer to family. Ernest was predeceased by his daughters Elizabeth (2003) and Jacqueline (2013). He is survived by his wife Ellen, son Daniel (Eileen), son-in-law James Peden, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Nicola Di Marco of Toronto, ON, on June 19, 2025, age 87, after a short illness and hospitalization. Soon after immigrating to Canada with her husband Camillo, she was saved through the gospel efforts of C. Patrizzio. Nicola was in fellowship at the Westmount, the Fairbank, and lastly the Mimico/Applewood Heights assembly where she supported her husband who was a respected overseer for 40 years. After the homecall of Cam in 2011, she eventually moved to a retirement home, and was unable to attend assembly meetings recently due to her limited mobility. Her life exemplified the qualities of 1 Timothy 5:10 – she was highly esteemed by all. Her four children, David (Donna), Linda (Paul) Bartman, Frank (Theresa), and Danny (Mary Ann), along with seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, are evidence of the spiritual example and kindness of this dear sister now with her Lord.
