Special Report

St. Lucia

Phil Gould writes: Our focus in St. Lucia is on seeking to build up four of the seven local assemblies in teaching and discipling new and young believers. Trena and I have individual Bible studies with some and hold a Saturday Bible class in our home for the youth, with a desire to see them grasp foundational doctrines and mature spiritually. At the end of 2025, a distribution of 32,000 gospel calendars reached most homes. Pray with us for fruit unto salvation from this effort and ongoing gospel outreach. Pray that those being taught God’s Word will gladly submit to it and “grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Ronald Minnett of Charlton, ON, on March 29, 2025, two days before his 93rd birthday. Born March 31, 1932, in Hamilton, ON, he was saved at age eight when his Sunday School teacher impressed upon him the urgency of salvation. Ron met Mary Cooper in Fenelon Falls, ON. They were married in 1953, and then moved north in 1961 to Charlton, where they raised their six children. In 1968, they began attending the local assembly, where Ron served faithfully as an elder. He lovingly looked after Mary as her dementia progressed. In September 2024, Ron relocated to live with family and fellowshipped at the assembly in Kirkland Lake, ON. He is survived by his children Jim (Judy), Linda (Don) Bowden, David (Heather), Sharon (late Harri) Ollila, Grace (Wayne) Aldred, and Stephen (Linda), many grandchildren, and his brother Stanley (Elaine). Mary (Cooper) Minnett of Charlton, ON, on May 7, 2025, age 95, after patiently suffering with dementia for numerous years. Born in Toronto on November 4, 1929, she became concerned about her soul as a young girl. Mary was saved when her recently saved friend suggested that she insert her name into John 3:16. She attended Toronto Bible College, became a loving wife, farmer and mother, faithfully taught Sunday School, and led her six children to the Savior. She joyfully shared the gospel with those she met, and used her gift of music to praise and glorify Christ. Mary is dearly missed by her children Jim (Judy), Linda (Don) Bowden, David (Heather), Sharon (late Harri) Ollila, Grace (Wayne) Aldred, and Stephen (Linda), and many grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Ronald of 72 years just five weeks earlier, they were buried on the same day. Grandson Kevin Minnett took the service.

In the barn that day was another man, John Kember, who asked him to read John 3:3,7 from the Bible. They spoke a bit about the verses that stated, “Ye must be born again,” and as Lorne drove the two or three miles home, God convicted him that “whatever this man is talking about I don’t have, but would sure be worth knowing.” In September of 1960, Lorne and his wife Edna (predeceased in 2020) were saved by the grace of God. He spent a good part of his life spreading the gospel throughout Canada and the US, and was in fellowship for 65 years with the saints that gathered in the Oil Springs Gospel Hall.
